Data innovation for climate resilient drinking water

Our mission

Magenta generates digital daily handpump data on water use in rural clinics, households and schools. Our technology fills a critical data gap to understand drinking water demand in a changing climate.

Our data systems support national monitoring systems, climate adaptation finance, and results-based funding models for drinking water sustainability.

How it works

Magenta installs temperature sensors in handpumps to provide daily data on functionality and hours of usage.

The sensors detect lower temperatures when groundwater is pumped to provide independent verification of drinking water services against temperature variation.

Algorithms model data to provide spatially and temporally robust estimates to determine climate and water interactions.

Temperature data track climate effects on water use in a changing world

Magenta technology supports government monitoring, results-based funding and climate projects in Africa and Asia
